Collection éphémère Archetype 17.1.-5.4.2025 at Institut Finlandais
Friday 17.1.2025
I am happy to be one of the five Finnish designers presented from 17th January to 5 April at the gallery-boutique of the Institut finlandais in Paris. The selection is curated by Archetype Label.
From timeless and functional design to carefully chosen materials, all the creators offer pieces that focus on sustainability and longevity, and capture authentic and minimalist Nordic style. The curated collection features clothing by Archetype, silver jewelry by Keski-Pomppu, ceramics by Aure Ceramics, shoes by Terhi PölkkI and my Paula Kasu Raffia Travel Hats.
I designed new fun Travel Hat styles for this exhibition. All the hats are collapsible (great for travels) and made of vintage raffia braid, sewn row by row and hand blocked on a hat block.
The gallery-boutique is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am-6pm
60 Rue des Écoles, 75005 Paris, France

Paula Kasu for Samuji launched!
Tuesday 7 May 2024
I’m so happy to tell you that my collaboration capsule collection ”Paula Kasu for Samuji” is released today in the Samuji website and the brick-and-mortar store on Liisankatu 17. Working together with Samuji design team has been a delightful experience. I have loved Samuji since the beginning of the brand and this collaboration was a dream come true.
The inspiration to this collection comes from the Oona Mäkelä’s hand painted Japanese Pine illustration for Samuji’s SS24 collection. The shapes of the pines resemble clouds and the asymmetric shapes of the brims were influenced by those trees. I hand dyed the vintage wheat straw braids to the prettiest shade of midnight blue and created five hat shapes that can be easily combined with Samuji’s summer collection.
Millinery is an ancient craft. I am specialized in sewing straw and I am happy to bring my savoir faire to this collaboration collection. All the hats are carefully crafted by me in my atelier in Helsinki. The hats are blocked by using vintage hat blocks and finished using traditional millinery techniques.
I’m super happy about this collaboration launch which my friend Sanna Hellikki made a beautiful illustration for. It really feels like everything came together nicely. You are warmly welcome to the brick-and-mortar store to explore the special collection. I hope that these pieces bring you joy!
